Abstract

Progress in the development of highly-loaded diesel engines for passenger car applications continues to exceed all expectations. Specific power up to 67 kW/dm3 and BMEP up to 2.4 MPa are now available in production engines. PCPs will reach 20 MPa in the near future. These changes will result in higher thermal and mechanical stress on key engine components. The piston ring pack, and, in particular, the top compression ring, has to reliably seal the combustion chamber under all conditions. Riken Corporation has developed a new product generation of piston rings for current and future diesel engine generations.
