Abstract

This construction for swimming pools that forms part of the Sports Palace in Vienna consists of three levels: — basement with wardrobes and washrooms; — ground floor with a 10 x 50 m swimming pool for training, two saunas and one restaurant; — upper floor or main enclosure with an olympic 50 X 25 m pool, another one for jumping; and one for the use of beginners. This last level is further equipped with a gallery for 800 spectators, a restaurant and an American bowling alley. On the roof of the building there is an open space which can be used as a terrace for the public. The depth of the swimming pool for racing can be changed according to needs, e.g. adapting it for the use of children or persons who are unable to swim. The material used for the structure is concrete and the roof consists of up to 45 m long span trusses, in a fan-wise disposition and facing south. For the interior lighting maximum use has been made of the sunlight which enters through the celling and three glass facades.

Incluido en el complejo municipal del Palacio de los Deportes de la ciudad de Viena, consta de tres niveles: Asimismo, de tribunas para 800 espectadores, un restaurante y una bolera americana. La piscina de competición puede variar la altura de su fondo, en una quinta parte de su superficie, para así poder adecuarla a los niños o personas que no sepan nadar.
