Abstract

Pipeline failure due to internal pressure causes leakage and emission. This chapter focuses on piping and pipeline wall thickness calculation. It also focuses on the selection of pressure ratings and wall thickness for fittings and flanges. Different piping standards such as ASME B16.5 (Flange standard), ASME B31.3 (Process piping), ASME B31.4, and B31.8 (Gas and liquid pipeline) are referred. The chapter explains different methods to calculate the piping and pipeline thickness. It discusses different examples of piping and pipeline wall thickness calculation, flange and fitting rating selection. The chapter introduces some of the pipe fittings like tees, reduces, elbow, and cap, and their method of manufacturing. As an example, wrought process, which is used for fittings, is briefly explained. Finally, the ASME B16.5 and pressure-temperature ratings for different material groups are briefly explained.
