Abstract

The range of MH tunnelling machines, manufactured by Herrenknecht GMBH, working in conjunction with the Zoker pipe-jacking system, can operate under a wide range of ground conditions. Each tunnelling machine consists of a shield cutting edge, power unit, mine cars and pipe jacking units. Three types of equipment are available--the MH3 is intended for 1.2-1.7 M inside pipe diameter, the MH2 is for 1.7-2.7 M diameter and the MH1 covers the range 2.7-3.4 M diameter. As well as circular pipes, square and elliptical pipe systems can also be produced by the equipment. Hydraulic hammers can be connected to the boom arm of the machines to cope with hard ground conditions. Tunnelling operations can be remote-controlled when working under pressure conditions. (TRRL)
