Abstract

The early studies on the dynamics of pipes conveying fluid by Feodos’ev, Housner, Benjamin and Païdoussis in the 1950s and 1960s elucidated the basic dynamics of the system. Yet, further studies on variants of the basic system proliferated, so that, by 1993, Pipes Conveying Fluid was deemed to be a model problem in dynamics. The rate of publication of papers on the subject has increased exponentially, with over 1000 papers now published on the subject. This paper presents a very brief review of the fundamentals, and a more extensive review of some very recent work on the subject, which exemplifies the far-ranging variants of the system being studied.
