Abstract

Pion production or absorption experiments have during the last two years been more and more devoted to the (N, π) or the equivalent (π, N) reaction. A program for studies of this rare mode of pion production or absorption is now in progress at several laboratories in the world. A large proportion of the contributed papers to this workshop deals with different aspects of this reaction, and the first experimental results from the new accelerator facilities can now be presented. Interesting new results are also announced from experimental studies of the charged particle yield followed from pion absorption on nuclei 1). Since this topic is already reviewed during the plenary session of the conference I shall mainly discuss the (p, π) reaction in my introductory talk.KeywordsAngular DistributionTarget NucleusPion ProductionResidual NucleusAngular DistribuThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
