Abstract

The relativistic forms of the Faddeev equations are studied in connection with any general decay process into three pions. The pion-pion interaction is parametrized through off-shell form factors for each partial wave to the relevant phase shifts. The equations are solved numerically for the case of p → 3π, where the annihilation is at rest, and compared with experimental data for the Dalitz plot for the π+π−π0 final state. Phase-shift solutions for theP andD waves are fed in which simply correspond to the ρ and f0 mesons and the best fits from a wide-ranging set of solutions of theS-wave phase shifts are found. We find evidence in favour of anS-wave resonance close to the ρ mass with a corresponding width of 480 MeV.
