Abstract

The present status of pion-deuteron (πd) elastic scattering both experimental and theoretical is briefly reviewed. Today both theory and experiments are so precise that one can use πd scattering to test models for use in pion nuclear calculations. The overriding problem of incorporating pion-absorption into present theoretical approaches will be discussed and comments on the models used in describing the πd → pp reaction will be made. A possible exotic explanation for the remaining discrepancy between data and theory invoking dibaryon-resonances will be offered and at the end a comment on the deuteron form factor will be given. But first the pion-nucleon (πN) interaction will be presented.
