Abstract

The description of the medium energy pion-nucleus inelastic scattering which excites the target from ground state to a negative parity state is discussed in the approach of combining Eikonal approximation with spdf Interacting Boson Model. The calculated differential cross sections of the scattering with excitation from . state to ; state and the deformation parameter of the state agree with experimental data quite well. It indicates that the low-lying states of 118Sn can be described in the IBM. The effects of multiple scattering and nuclear structure correlation are shown to be important in the scattering process.
