Abstract

ABSTRACTProjectile points similar in style to those of Malcolm J. Rogers's postulated Pinto-Gypsum complex have been collected from the surface of a number of sites in three widely-separated areas of Arizona and New Mexico. The collection tends to confirm the validity of Rogers's complex. Evidence is presented concerning the degree to which Pinto Basin and Gypsum Cave points occur together in the three areas. Comparisons are made with Rogers's complex as described for southern California and Nevada. Comparisons are also made between the similarity of these point types and their known distribution in the widespread Amargosan adaptation. Points found in each of the three areas are compared with those reported from the Stahl Site, Pinto Basin, and the lower basin of the Colorado River. Data are also presented that confirm the presence of basal and lateral grinding on points from the three areas under study.
