Abstract

Percentages of mating and spermatophores per female of feral but not laboratory-reared pink boll worm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), moths were increased near cotton plant material. Oviposition of feral and laboratory-reared moths increased near cotton plant material. Laboratory-reared pairs tended to begin mating about 1 to 2 h earlier than feral moths. Time in copula ranged from 67 to 81 min and 67 to 79 min for laboratory-reared and feral moth pairs, respectively. Feral female moths laid a higher percentage (66%) of their eggs on the cotton plant material, whereas laboratory-reared females laid a higher percentage (90%) on paper towel oviposition substrates.
