Abstract

A significant concern by HIV/AIDS problem in Ukraine led to the creation of a large number of different orders, concepts and other legal acts related to combating HIV/AIDS, which creates a discrepancy. In order to provide necessary medical care for patients with HIV clinicians and other medical staff need relevant information on the diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS based on evidence. Given the urgency of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Ukraine, began the process of standardization of medical care on the principals of evidence-based medicine. A multidisciplinary working group performed a systematic search of clinical guidelines on a management of patients with HIV/AIDS. Guidelines were assessed by AGREE II. Each of the guidelines, which were taken as the prototypes were critically assessed and adapted to the national context. As result, clinical protocols based on the recommendations of clinical guidelines have been created. During the work, differences in the treatment of HIV/AIDS in Ukraine and the best world practice were identified. The new clinical protocol includes provision for the provision of medical assistance of appropriate quality for all levels of health care system. A central focus is on primary health care, in particular, clear algorithms of HIV / AIDS diagnosis and the appointment of initial antiretroviral therapy regimens. A significant step has been taken to improve the quality of HIV/AIDS medical care in health facilities at all levels, based on best practices. Currently, projects of the medical and technological documents on Antiretroviral therapy, treatment of opportunistic infections and associated diseases to patients with HIV are prepared to the Ministry of Health for approval.
