Abstract

The Pilot's Associate program has completed its first major milestone, Demonstration 2. From this experi- ment in the application of complex, real-time, artificial intelligence systems, many significant lessons have been learned which can impact the Pilot 's Associate and similar, human-aiding applications. This pa- per explores the first two years of program development -- some of the strengths and weaknesses of the de- sign, architecture, and implementa- tion approach, and offers a prospec- tus on the operational impact of ar- tificial intelligence in advanced aircraft .
