Abstract

Objective: Because recurrent ovarian cancer (ROC) is rarely curable, quality of life (QOL) is a priority among patients receiving chemotherapy. Animal- assisted therapy has been shown in other diseases to improve QOL but its applications in ROC are limited. The PARO therapeutic robot is a harp seal designed to interact with patients through 5 unique sensors that respond to touch, light, sound, temperature, and posture. Clinical trials in Alzheimer’s disease have reported improved QOL and cognitive function.
