Abstract

Serials: The Journal for the Serials Community has been digitised and can be accessed in full on this website. All content is freely available on an open-access basis. Serials was published between 1988 and 2011. In 2012, the journal was retitled and is now published as Insights: the UKSG journal.

A paper presented at the JANET User Group for Libraries (JUGL) seminar, Sheffield Hallam University, June 1997. In a small local suruey the PSLI was evaluated at Sussex University. Personal contact and printed journals are still the major sources of information for researchers. When they do use electronic sources they want to be able to target their efforts effectively on a good quantity of relevant information in a readily accessible form. The Pilot Site Licence Initiative is one of the most important developments so far in electronic journals. At Sussex we decided to conduct a small, local user evaluation of the PSLI and certain other electronic journal sites. Since John Fielden and Colin Harris from the Commonwealth Higher Education Management Service have suggested proposals for a national user evaluation of the ELI, and Sussex may well contribute to that
