Abstract

Increased left-ventricular (LV) diastolic pressures, occurring during heart failure (HF), can increase myocardial energy demand and facilitate maladaptive remodeling. We hypothesized that LV unloading during periods of volume overload can mitigate remodeling/functional deterioration in HF. Therefore, we studied a novel intra-atrial one-way (left-to-right) valve (V-Wave) designed to act as a selective/pressure dependent shunt, implanted in animals with chronic ischemic heart (HF).
