Abstract

From the cave paintings at Lascaux to the latest experiments in contemporary art, artists have used all the colour materials available to them. Today, the range of colour and materials that artists can use isoverwhelming. Russell Kearton traces the development of painting pigments throughout the ages, from the yellows and reds of prehistoric times, to the overflowing palette of modern day art.
