Abstract

Seven pig-to-baboon orthotopic liver xenografts are reported. All animals recovered consciousness after operation. Four baboons died from uncontrollable hæmorrhage after 6-30 hours. The remaining three animals, which were given human fibrinogen, did not bleed. Six xenografted livers had centrilobular liver necrosis at postmortem examination; the seventh animal died after 31/2 days from bronchopneumonia with well-preserved liver parenchyma and round-cell infiltration of the portal tracts.
