Abstract

A new phenomenon called the piezoelectric deformation memory (PDM) effect is described, which has been experimentally observed in quartz single crystals. According to this, piezoelectric deformation that arises in a crystal exposed to an electric field can be retained for a rather long time (tens of hours) after switching off the field. The influence of ionizing radiation on the PDM has been studied.
