Abstract

From the discovery of piezoelectric effects in poled BaTiO 3 ceramics, a lot of new piezoelectric ceramic materials have been developed. Although quartz is still one of the most important piezoelectric materials, the development of new piezoelectric ceramics (PZT, PLZT, PT, etc) with better performance has nevertheless allowed a considerable expansion of its possibilities of application of piezoelectric devices in new areas. Piezoelectric ceramics with high and reproducible performance can be only achieved by using new powder preparation processing which is being presently used for industrial production applications. This review presents the status of research and development of piezoelectric ceramics, particularly lead titanate zirconate, La-lead titanate zirconate, modified-lead titanate and composites.
