Abstract

In order to make clear the origin of zero value of k31 in calcium-modified PbTiO3 ceramics, the transverse displacements induced by application of high dc and ac electric fields were experimentally investigated, and were compared with those of PZT ceramics with the composition of a morphotropic phase boundary. The d31 coefficient of Ca-modified PbTiO3 ceramics changed with the amplitude of the applied ac field, and it was not zero under high electric field, although k31 was zero under small signal field. The mechanism of the zero value of transverse coupling factor k31 was discussed on the basis of the experimental results.
