Abstract

A description is given of the doping of polymer films with dyes and plasticizer and their influence on the electrical properties and structure of polymers. Doping of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with the dye crystal violet results in B-structure modification without stretching and produces piezo- and pyroelectric polymer films with a high absorbance in the visible range. The field dependence of the piezoelectric strain coefficient d/sub 31/ and the remanent polarization of polyethylene-oxide-doped PVDF films displays a shift to lower fields, which is attributed to a plasticizer effect. The incorporation of the dye disperse red in polymethylmethacrylate results in a significant increase of pyroelectric activity.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
