Abstract

If locking for an interesting way to encourage students and foster creativity and to help students express themselves mathematically in imaginative ways, try a fun day of mathematical contests and activities. Pi Day, in honor of the number with approximate value 3.14, is held on March 14, otherwise known as 3/14. I have made the day's activities into a set of contests that are specifically designed to help students recognize that they are able to participate in mathematics even if they have had limited classroom success with the subject.
