Abstract

THIS pertinent query concerning the choice of names of towns in the United States occurs in an entertaining article American Town Names by Rush C. Faris in the Chautauquan for September, 1894, pages 723-6. Inasmuch as making governments and building towns are the natural employments of the migratory Yankee, ' one need not be surprised by this choice of town names from the world of politics. But not all the nomenclature has so obvious a derivation.
