Abstract

This normally fit patient had not been feeling very well for a few weeks. She had felt tired and depressed, had lost a bit of weight and complained of feeling increasingly stiff and ‘achy’. The stiffness was most noticeable in the mornings and the pains affected mainly her neck, shoulders and hips. In desperation, she had tried wearing a collar but felt that even this did not give her much relief. As she said, ‘Sometimes it is almost too much effort to get out of bed’. Up until this time, she had always enjoyed good health.
