Abstract

An intense, tunable picosecond laser source has been used for selective excitation of vibronic bands of perylene in n-heptane crystals near 4 K. Measurements of resonance fluorescence signaIs show relaxation times to have limiting values near 45 ps at vibrational energies above about 2000 cm −. At lower energies, the duration of resonance fluorescence signals appears to be considerably shorter, indicating the probable involvement of internal vibrational modes of the heptane matrix.
