Abstract

A new picosecond to nanosecond phase fluorometer is reported for measurements of fluorescence lifetime τ f and rotational diffusion time constants τ rot which uses a mode-locked cw laser as excitation source. Fourier component signals greater than the signal in a 100% sine-modulated phase fluorometer with the same average excitation power, a frequency range 125 MHz to 1000 MHz and a time resolution ⩾ 3 ps for τ rot have been achieved.
