Abstract

An integrable model developed by the author is used to analyze the evolution of longitudinal-transverse acoustic pulses propagating parallel to an external magnetic field in a paramagnetic crystal with spin-1/2 impurities. Acoustic pulse propagation in a medium with orthorhombic spin-phonon coupling symmetry is described without invoking the slowly varying envelope approximation. A solution to the model is found by a modified inverse scattering method based on an analysis of the Riemann-Hilbert problem taking into account the problem symmetry.
