Abstract

The current paper proposes to compare the performances of a proportional-integral (PI) controller whose parameters are determined in a model-based way using a metaheuristic search algorithm, with the performances of a PI determined in a model-free way by using virtual reference feedback tuning (VRFT) algorithm and using iterative feedback tuning (IFT) algorithm. The PI controller is included in a control system structure to control the position of a shape memory alloy (SMA) laboratory equipment.
