Abstract
Red (R) light inhibits and far red (FR) light promotes the uptake of [ 32P]orthophosphate, [ 14C]valine and [ 14C]sucrose by isolated coconut endosperm nuclei. The inhibition of the uptake of [ 14C]sucrose by a 5-min pulse of R light was reversible by a 5-min pulse of FR light which followed. Phytochrome thus controls the uptake of metabolites by nuclei.
