Abstract

Euonymus japonicus L., often known as the spindle tree, is a Celastraceae family plant utilized in traditional medicine and as an attractive garden plant. The goal of this study was to identify and isolate the active compounds B-sitasterol and stigmasterol from the roots and leaves of E. japonicus by using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and reverse phase-high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) were used to investigate the chemical composition of the leaves and root of E. japonicus. This confi rms the presence of b-sitosterol and stigmasterol in the leaves and roots of E. japonicus L. plant. The structure of these chemicals was clearly defi ned by UV spectroscopic, FTIR spectroscopic, and TLC techniques, revealing similarity to B-sitosterol and stigmasterol
