Abstract

• This review focuses on the different parameters that influence the green synthesis of Ni/NiO NPs. • Various analytical techniques were used to characterize and confirm the green synthesized Ni/NiO NPs. • Different plant parts are used for the synthesis of Ni/NiO NPs. • It also emphasizes the photocatalytic degradation of hazardous dyes using synthesised Ni/NiO NPs. Dyes are synthetic organic compounds which are widely employed in various industries such as pharmaceutical, rubber, textile, etc. Every year, almost 50,000 tonnes of dyes as effluents from these industries are released into the environment. As a result, there leads to major pollution problems in water bodies all over the world. Physical, chemical, and biological methods of approaches have been used to reduce the toxic compounds present in all industrial effluents. On the other hand, these techniques are expensive, and are tedious processes, and have discarding/disposal difficulties. The photocatalytic degradation of dye effluents from industries by green synthesized metal/metal oxide nanoparticles is an effective technique and attracted much attention owing to its cheap, non-toxic, and eco-friendly approach. This review mainly focuses on the green synthesis of nickel/nickel oxide nanoparticles through the involvement of phytoconstituents present in the plant extracts as well as the influence of several factors on the synthesis of nickel/nickel oxide nanoparticles and its photocatalytic activity towards the degradation of textile dyes.
