Abstract
Summary Older people are the largest users of health services, and predictions indicate an increase in the need for cost-effective and timely rehabilitation. In response to purchaser and provider demands a review of the staffing requirements to provide high quality physiotherapy services to older people in NHS hospital and community settings was undertaken by AGILE (Chartered Physiotherapy with Older People). The results give guidance which can be adapted for local conditions and further refined by audit. Understanding the complex issues surrounding physiotherapy resource calculations will help practitioners to be proactive in meeting changing needs and participate in negotiations from an informed base. The principles on which the model is based are adaptable to most disciplines, specialties and circumstances.
