Abstract

Introduction: A significant and increasing number of Australians identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other related identities (LGBTQIA+). Not only do gender and sexual minority groups experience significantly poorer physical, and mental health, they also experience greater barriers to accessing and utilising health care. In physiotherapy, we found that individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+ experience assumptions about their sexuality and/or gender identity, discomfort about touch and undressing, fear of and actual discrimination, and a lack of knowledge about specific LGBTQIA+ health needs.
