Abstract

The growth and implantation of embryos after early ablation of the o varies was studied in rabbits given extracts of corpus luteum. 2 mated does of proven fertility were given 1 cc of corpus luteum extract daily from the time of removal of their ovaries shortly after mating. The animals were sacrificed at 13 days and 17 days after mating. The 1st doe has 8 implantation sites and the 2nd had 5 of a size corresponding to pregnancy. 4 groups of controls were maintained: ovarian ablation only; ovarian ablation plus a low dose of extract ovarian ablation plus follicular extracts and does treated with an extract of human placenta. Progestational proliferation was absent in all control animals. Estrin may retard either the growth or transportation of the embryos. The embryos of the 2 treated does indicates that normal implantation and growth may occur in the presence of corpus luteum extracts.
