Abstract

The completeness of synthesis and systemic involvement [sistemnost] in the functioning of the anthropoid ape brain (the chimpanzee) is illustrated by a specific pattern of complex behavior that we have developed experimentally. This pattern consists of a consecutive choice of one of four different drawers in an apparatus, one of four keys of different shapes, the opening of the corresponding lock and drawer and the removal of a lure from it, and the development of some reaction in accordance with the character of the unconditioned reinforcing stimulus (food, drink, play, and contact).
