Abstract

In the esthetic and maxillomandibular relation recording phases of denture construction, there is a need for an objective method of recording facial contours and analyzing their changes which occur either during functional performances or as a result of degenerative processes. Orthodontic research which employed physiographic cinematography of facial contour lines as a means of studying orofacial muscle activity during function indicates that this technique may have prosthodontic applications. A prosthodontic patient has been selected for a study of the intraoral and extraoral changes which will take place in the next 10 years. During this time, cephalometric roentgenograms and speech recordings will be made to correlate with the cinematographic records. This investigation will permit an evaluation of the applications of physiographic cinematography to problems in both the teaching and practice of prosthodontics.
