Abstract
Physics studies are carried out on the plasma of the large helical device (LHD), the experiment which began at the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS). LHD is a flexible device and can operate in various configurations. Characteristics of the plasma are investigated and confinement improvement is discussed.
