Abstract

This paper examines the behavior of mixtures of finely divided metals Mg, Al, Fe, Cr, and Ni with lithium perchlorate (commercial LiClO/sub 4/ is used) on shock compression. The results of tests showed that LiClO/sub 4/ without additives melts on shock compression and decomposes at the contacts with the walls of the ampule. The reaction and the main products of the six metals are charted. The results indicate that water had a considerable effect on the reactions in mixtures on shock compression and slow heating, water being always present in commercial LiClO/sub 4/.
