Abstract

To dertermine the optimum composition of boron-containing ferroalloys a study has been made of the physicochemical properties of alloys and of the peculiarities of their interaction with the melt. Alloys of the B-Fe, B-Si and B-Si-Fe systems were investigated. The crystallization temperature, the density of the alloys, the thermal effect of their interaction with steel, the variation in the temperature of liquid steel due to the addition of alloys, and the time of their melting in liquid steel were studied. On the basis of the experiments and the calculations performed we have determined the compositions of boron-containing ferroalloys that possess optimum service characteristics.
