Abstract

A new copolymer poly(AM-co-4VP ) of acrylamide (AM) and 4-vinylpyridine (4VP) was synthesized by radical adiabatic copolymerization in aqueous solution. The structure and composition of the copolymer were characterized by their 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, UV-visible spectra and conductimetry. The molecular weights are obtained by GPC and viscosity. The variation of the reduced viscosity of aqueous copolymer solutions with copolymer concentration revealed a strong intermolecular macromolecular interaction (microdomaines). It’s showed an anti-polyelectrolyte behaviour in aqueous solution in presence of NaCl salt. On the order hand the anti-polyelectrolyte behaviour, that reduces viscosity (η red ) increases remarkably in dilute regime with the added of NaCl salt to the aqueous copolymer solutions. This phenomenon depended on the pH of the aqueous medium. The viscosimetric macromolecular (Mv) was determined using Mark Howink equation of polyacrylamide which is compared with macromolecular weight (M W ) obtained by GPC.
