Abstract

The aim of the present investigation is to improve the Mn/Fe ratio to be used for production of ferromanganese by using reduction roasting followed by magnetic separation, and also manganese recovery by acid leaching for production of battery grade manganese dioxide from low grade manganese ore of Tirodi Mines (Madhya Pradesh). For reduction roasting, charcoal was used as the reducing agent. Leaching of manganese ore was carried out with diluted sulphuric acid in the presence of pyrite in the temperature range from 323 to 363 K. The effects of stirring rate, temperature, particle size, acid concentration, and pyrite/ore ratio on dissolution rate were studied.
