Abstract
This chapter explores the research in leadership communication might provide a normative theoretical foundation for understanding how physicians can develop better relationships with patients during medical interviews. It focuses on a competing values framework in order to categorize physician communication goals during interactions with patients. The chapter discusses the theoretically founded explanation for the effects of verbal communication on rapport. While working to understand what makes an organization effective, Quinn and Rohrbaugh developed a cognitive map of management, which was extended to describe managerial communication Rapport is a concept used to describe relationship quality and has two facets: enjoyable interactions and personal connection. Rapport management refers to the use of language to manage social relations. The On Record Plainly strategy appears to be effective when there is no face wants or sociality rights threat in the physician’s message or when the situation is urgent.
