Abstract

In 1 989 the American College of Radiology (ACR), through its Commission on Marketing Communications, conducted a national survey of physicians about referral patterns for radiologic studies. It is believed to be the largest survey to date on this issue, with 2982 nonradiologist physicians responding. The findings confirm some of the assumptions that radiologists already make about the attitudes of referring physicians, but also suggest some other issues for consideration. The ACR has permitted the publishing of this study in order to share these findings as broadly as possible within the radiologic profession.
