Abstract

This paper examines characteristics, job involvement, and career stage differences among physician executives in the American College of Physician Executives. Major findings include: (a) management as a serious career choice characterized by shifting values and attitudes; and (b) differences between younger and older executives that signal an evolving medical management specialty.
