Abstract
I recently read an incredible story about a 41‐year‐old California woman with advanced amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease) who hosted a weekend party for her friends prior to her physician‐assisted suicide. Guests who attended found it difficult, moving, and very important regarding their relationship with the woman. It seemed like a sad but beautiful event for the woman and for those of her friends who chose to participate. As one who has always been interested in palliative care and death with dignity, I was prompted to look into the status of physician‐assisted suicide, especially where it stands with regard to the pediatric population.
