Abstract

Background: Opioid overdose deaths are an epidemic in the United States. The Joint Commission has mandated that non-pharmacologic therapies, for example acupuncture, be offered first to patients for pain. Traditional Acupuncture has been used to treat pain in China for thousands of years and has gained popularity globally. Acupuncture is recognized by the NIH as safe and effective for pain, and its usage in the Veterans Administration has helped to decrease opioid dosages.
