Abstract

The flow pattern of small, narrow and horizontal melter for frit was studied using of physical simulation. The dimensionless number of Reynolds number and the viscosity of glass at high temperature were fitted for simulation. In the case of natural flow, the pattern and dead corner of flow depended on the difference temperature between surface and bottom and the position of throat. In order to stabilize the flow and decrease dead corner, the temperature difference over 10°C between surface and bottom of the fluid could be required and throat position be located near inlet. For the purpose of enhancing the homogeneity of flow, forced circulation was introduced. However, because there was the trade-off relationship between homogeniety and productivity, spindle speed has to be controlled as producer’s demand.
