Abstract

The present study used the convenient sampling method to survey 1,651 Chinese university students across the country to validate the effectiveness and feasibility of the Chinese version of Physical Self-Perception Profile (PSPP) scale. The results showed that it satisfied the uni-dimensionality requirement with the overall reliability of over 0.90. Except for Items 21 and 25, the fitting indices of other items were good, and the body self-esteem scale was suitable to distinguish individuals with medium and high physical self-esteem. In addition, results of item function difference test revealed a functional difference (DIF) phenomenon in some items, suggesting that the self-esteem level of male students was higher than that of female students. The results showed that the majority of items was within acceptable bounds for fit, illustrating appropriate model-data fit. The 4-point rating scale worked well for rating scale. Furthermore, the application of the Rasch model to analyze PSPP, compared with the classical test theory, conformed more to the requirements of metrology and reflected the characteristics and properties of the testing instrument more comprehensively.
