Abstract
As most Quaternary scientists use lacustrine sediments as a paleoenvironmental proxy, this article focuses on physical properties diagnostic in a proxy context. Most attention is placed here upon the physical properties of the sediment, the methods of assessing physical properties, and a catalog of comparative data of physical properties for reference and comparative purposes. Topics include assessment of a suite of physical properties, including basin allometry, bulk density, diagenesis, grain size, magnetic susceptibility, shear strength, stratigraphy, and water content.
